The Very Revd David Ison was ordained in the Church of England in 1979, and worked in churches in inner-city London and outer estate Coventry as well as teaching in a ministry training college. For twelve years from 1993 he worked supporting clergy and their parishes across Devon while being on the staff of Exeter Cathedral. From 2005 he was a cathedral dean: after seven years in a challenging inner-city post in Bradford, he was head-hunted to become dean of St Paul's in London to help the cathedral recover from a protest camp and develop its ministry for the 21st century. He retired back to Devon in 2022 after leading the cathedral through the pandemic.
